    How to get the Service?

    • vuNet - vuNet is the network VU faculty, staff, and students should use for their desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones (see below for gaming consoles). It requires a VUnetID and ePassword for access and is the most secure. Since the network is broadcast, your devices will automatically see it when in range and will automatically connect once initially configured. For best results, use the wireless onboarding system found at wifi.vanderbilt.edu to connect to this network.
    • vuGuest – vuGuest is an open network that requires the user to accept the terms of use for a 24-hour period of access. If the user needs another 24 hours of access, they will need to accept the terms of use again. The only reason a Vanderbilt user should use vuGuest is to run the onboarding process if their device has no other internet access. Vanderbilt users should use one of the other networks for their devices primary access method.

  • vuDevices Wireless Network

    Service Description

The vuDevices wireless network is the enterprise wireless network for devices that cannot connect with a username/password combinations. Examples of these devices are game consoles and other IoT (Internet of Things) devices. The vuDevices network should not be used for computers, phones, or tablets that can support vuNet or eduroam connectivity.

The MAC (media access control) address of a device is necessary for use on the vuDevices network. This is a unique Ethernet address assigned by the manufacturer of the device. Devices that have not connected to the network in 365 days will have their registration automatically removed.

    How to get the Service?

    • Step 1 - Register your Wireless Device for access to vuDevices

You will be taken to a web page where you can register your device

      VU Devices documentation

      • Click ‘Create Device’
      • Provide a Device Name and MAC Address

      VU Device documentation

      • Click ‘Create Device’
      • You will be shown the Password (PSK). Make sure to make a note of it.

      VU Device Documenation

Step 2 - Configure Your Device to connect to vuDevices

Configuration of devices varies greatly, however, your device should have configuration options to enter
the SSID, the Pre-Shared Key (PSK), Security and DHCP Options.

      • SSID: vuDevices
      • Security: Select WPA2 Personal (PSK) or WPA (WPA2 is recommended as it is the most secure)
      • DHCP Options: Select ‘Use DHCP’

Devices using vuDevices will be assigned a Dynamic DHCP IP Address. A Dynamic DHCP IP Address is recommended unless the device requires a Static (fixed) IP Address. The following process should be used if the application requires the device to be assigned a Static IP address.

Use Static IP Request form at https://nde.its.vanderbilt.edu/ipadmin/ipam/iprequest.py to
request a DHCP Static IP Address

You will be asked for some information about your device, including the MAC Address.

For Request Type, select ‘Static (Assigned by DHCP Server)’.

In the Vlan Name Column, select ‘VU Devices'
