How do I configure Outlook 2016  for e-mail?  

Windows –   

  1. In Outlook, click File – Account Settings – Account Settings

  2. Click New
  3. Choose Email account, and click Next  
  4. Enter your name, Email address, and  e- Password

  5. Close and re-open Outlook for the changes to take effect.  

Mac -  

  1. In Outlook, go to Tools – Accounts.  
  2. Click the + icon in the bottom left corner.  
  3. Choose Exchange  
  4. Enter  your Email Address ,  VUnetID ,  and e-Password

How do I configure Outlook  2013 for e-mail?    

  1. Launch Outlook 2013. If you are prompted to create a profile, enter a name for your email account.

  2. Click  Next  at the welcome screen.

  3. Select  Yes , then  Next  to create your Outlook account.

  4. Select  Manual setup or additional server types  and click  Next . Your name and email address should auto populate under  Email Account . Verify everything is correct.   

    If you  have to  manually add your email credentials, enter your First and Last name, Vanderbilt e-mail address, and password. Select Microsoft Exchange Server or compatible service and hit Next.

  5. Under  Server Settings , type  for the Server. Your  User Name  should display Last Name, First Name.  If your User Name does not display, you may need to enter your  VUnetID  

    Set the amount of mail you want to keep for 12 months under Mail to keep Offline and select  Use Cached Exchange Mode  and hit  Next .

    6. You will see a verification screen. Click Finish. After a few moments, your mail will start to load. You may be prompted to restart Outlook.  

How do I configure e-mail settings such as IMAP or SMTP?

If you have a client or device which falls outside the list of VUIT supported clients, you may need to configure e-mail settings such as IMAP   or SMTP.  

IMAP /SMTP  Configuration Settings:  

Email Address:  email.address  

Domain: Vanderbilt  

Username:  VUnetID  (or Vanderbilt\ VUnetID )  

Password: Your  e-P assword.  

IMAP server (incoming) : SSL Port 993  

SMTP  server (o utgoing ) :  

Secure Connection: TLS  


How do I configure ActiveSync for my mobile device?    


VUIT recommends Android users visit the Google Play store  to install  Microsoft Outlook  for Android .  

*Note: The configuration steps vary by the version of Android that you are using.  

  1. On your device, go to  Settings .  
  2. On  the  Settings screen, tap  A dd a ccount .  
  3. On the  Add account screen,  tap  Exchange  
  4. On the setup screens, enter the information below. Tap   Next to move to the next screen.

Enter Vanderbilt   as the domain followed by a "\"

Email Administrative Access  

On Androids, you will be asked to grant the email server administrative access to your phone. This approval will permit the server to wipe your device remotely in case it is lost or stolen. No device will be wiped by the administrators without the owner’s permission.
