Identity Services

What is Identity Management?

Identity Management is the toolset we use to create and distribute identities to the many users on our network. This most specifically refers to users VUnetIDs and ePasswords. Most users rarely interact with the Identity system themselves and typically only use it to change their password.

Identity Management Project Information

With Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center restructuring themselves into their own distinct entities, many shared technical systems must be reconfigured as well. One such system is the shared Identity Management functionality – AccessVU.

Because each institution needs a way to distribute online identities to their users, there is a need for VU and VUMC to own and operate their own Identity Management solutions. With a multitude of options for how to best tackle this issue, Vanderbilt University decided to implement a replacement solution, SailPoint Identity IQ, and leave the current (AccessVU) with the Medical Center.

What This Means

Following SailPoint go-live on June 23, 2018, all essential Vanderbilt University tools will be available in the new VU SailPoint Identity system, which will provide and support a more robust set of tools. At the end of June, Vanderbilt University will no longer actively rely on AccessVU for identity needs.
