Vanderbilt Information Technology Academy of Leadership kicked off in October 2014

In October 2014, Vanderbilt Information Technology Academy of Leadership (VITAL) welcomed a cohort of 12 members in its inaugural year. This yearlong academy of leadership is designed to provide members with:

  • Enhanced awareness of Vanderbilt and VUIT strategies.
  • Leadership development tuned to divisional needs.
  • Focused feedback on personal leadership skills and opportunities to enhance them.
  • Practical techniques for dealing with day-to-day management challenges.
  • The chance to generate ideas around the strategic evolution of our division.
  • The opportunity to meet other well-positioned colleagues and collaborate with them to solve a real-world issue currently facing VUIT.

Each year, a cohort will be selected from nominations provided by each executive leadership’s operational unit within VUIT. Nomination submissions are then vetted by the executive leadership team, and candidates are selected based upon each individual’s current role, performance, and potential for career growth. As part of the 12-month VITAL curriculum, the cohort attends sessions, which serve as progress markers, throughout the year and gives a final presentation as a collective unit during the graduation ceremony. The efforts of the cohort are actualized through the opportunity to research and offer possible solutions to a current obstacle facing VUIT.
