University groups collaborated to make 2017 undergraduate decision reveal event successful

Vanderbilt University revealed its decisions for the Class of 2021 at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Each year, Vanderbilt IT partners with Academic Affairs Process and Solution Implementations (AAPSI), Undergraduate Admissions and Public Affairs to make this important event a success. The undergraduate regular decision reveal event involved more than 25,000 prospective students checking their personalized URL (PURL) to learn if they were accepted, waitlisted or denied admission.

As mentioned, decisions were released at approximately 5:30 p.m., and the first matriculation fee was paid at 5:49 p.m. At the peak, there were 15,421 users hitting the site, and the average response times were around half a second. This process included Amazon Web Services to help handle this spike in the load. VUIT's Application Development and Infrastructure teams monitored activity during the reveal in order to address any issues quickly.
