Updated graduation system to provide greater ease of use, e-diplomas

Following significant issues during Commencement in May 2017 with the university's diploma vendor, the Office of the University Registrar launched a search for a new vendor and selected Paradigm. In addition to paper diplomas, Paradigm offers e-diplomas, which are increasingly being used in the United States and already in common practice internationally.

Upon Academic Affairs' selection of Paradigm, VUIT's Academic Application Development team completed a project in June to update the graduation system for Academic Affairs' Office of the University Registrar and Academic Affairs Process and Solution Implementations (AAPSI).

This project improved the graduation system by:

  1. Implementing the new diploma vendor called Paradigm
  2. Updating to accommodate greater use by the Vanderbilt University Graduate School
  3. Introducing e-diploma in the student document ordering system (called THEO), made possible by Paradigm

The graduation system was originally developed 10 years ago to facilitate the degree-awarding and Commencement processes. Students log in to the application to provide information about themselves and their course of study. This data is used in the production of the Commencement program and is combined with other student records data to produce the diploma order for Vanderbilt's diploma vendor.
