vuDevices Wireless Network
The vuDevices wireless network is the enterprise wireless network for devices that cannot connect with
a username/password combinations. Examples of these devices are game consoles and other IoT (Internet of Things) devices. The vuDevices network should not be used for computers, phones, or tablets that can support vuNet or eduroam connectivity.
The MAC (media access control) address of a device is necessary for use on the vuDevices network. This
is a unique Ethernet address assigned by the manufacturer of the device. Devices that have not connected to the network in 365 days will have their registration automatically removed.
Step 1 - Register your Wireless Device for access to vuDevices
- Go to https://wifi.vanderbilt.edu
- Click ‘I have a VUnetID’
- Click ‘Register a Device’
You will be taken to a web page where you can register your device
- Click ‘Create Device’
- Provide a Device Name and MAC Address
- Click ‘Create Device’
- You will be shown the Password (PSK). Make sure to make a note of it.
Step 2 - Configure Your Device to connect to vuDevices
Configuration of devices varies greatly, however, your device should have configuration options to enter
the SSID, the Pre-Shared Key (PSK), Security and DHCP Options.
- SSID: vuDevices
- Security: Select WPA2 Personal (PSK) or WPA (WPA2 is recommended as it is the most secure)
- DHCP Options: Select ‘Use DHCP’
Devices using vuDevices will be assigned a Dynamic DHCP IP Address. A Dynamic DHCP IP Address is recommended unless the device requires a Static (fixed) IP Address. The following process should be used if the application requires the device to be assigned a Static IP address.
Use Static IP Request form at
https://nde.its.vanderbilt.edu/ipadmin/ipam/iprequest.py
to
request a DHCP Static IP Address
You will be asked for some information about your device, including the MAC Address.
For Request Type, select ‘Static (Assigned by DHCP Server)’.
In the Vlan Name Column, select ‘VU Devices'
