Rights Management Service

Description

Rights Management Services allows departments and individual users to protect their sensitive data and prevent unauthorized viewing, editing and distribution of information.

Rights Management Services augments Vanderbilt’s security strategy by applying protection to the information itself so that it does not matter where a document or email is moved or viewed. RMS can prevent sensitive information, such as reports, policy documents and confidential email messages, from accidentally being forwarded, altered or read by unauthorized parties. Protection is locked into the document itself, controlling how information is used even after it has been opened by its intended recipients.

Options:

You can use Rights Management Services with the Microsoft Office Suite, including the programs of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Available to:

Vanderbilt Community Network

How to get it:

Rights Management Services are now available to ensure that Microsoft Office documents are only read and/or edited by specific users. This service encrypts documents or attachments to prevent unauthorized reading or content editing. Restrictions can be set to read-only, per page editing permission and whole document password protection.
