Network Services provides wireless connectivity for special events

Commencement

In Spring 2015, the Network Services team provided wireless connectivity for two large events: Rites of Spring and Commencement. Network Services team extended network connectivity across Alumni Lawn using Ubiquity wireless bridges in order to provide network services to the Vanderbilt University Police Department (VUPD) command center and multiple camera locations across the lawn for the events. This connectivity enabled VUPD to deploy network attached cameras in obscure areas which improved security for the events.

The team also provided network connectivity for the Commencement ceremony video feed, which allowed those who could not make it to the ceremony to experience graduation day online. Viewers tuned in from around the world, including Malaysia, Nepal, India and Egypt.

In September 2015, multiple teams within Network Services worked to provide voice and data network connectivity to the SEC Nation staff in order to facilitate a broadcast from the Commons Lawn. This effort included support from the Network Security and Voice and Data teams as well and was an excellent display of VUIT pulling together to provide services for an important campus event.
