Connect to vuNet with Windows 7/Vista

Use the instructions below to connect your Windows machine to Vanderbilt University's secure wireless network, vuNet.

Notes

  • The setup network is vuSetup – This network should only be used one time to onboard your device to the vuNet network.
  • The network name is vuNet – This is the wireless network for faculty, staff and students.
  • Devices are configured through a program called Cloudpath XpressConnect.
  • These setup instructions may be used to recreate your wireless connection in the future. 

Step 1: Connect to vuSetup

  1. Click the wireless icon located in the lower-right corner of your desktop.
  2. Select vuSetup from the list of available networks. (Do not select to connect automatically.)
  3. Select Work Network when prompted to select a network location. The vuSetup network will appear.

Step 2: Run Cloudpath XpressConnect Application

  1. Open a web browser > this should redirect you to the Vanderbilt wireless page
  2. If a page does not open automatically, go to a website to start the redirect.
    (e.g., www.vanderbilt.edu)
  3. On the wireless page, read the EULA agreement.
  4. Check I accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement.
  5. Click Start.
  6. If prompted with a request to run Java, select to run this time.
  7. Check I accept the risk and want to run this application.
  8. Click Run.

Step 3: Complete setup

  1. Cloudpath XpressConnect will open a new window.
    (This program will automatically configure your computer for vuNet wireless.)
  2. Click Continue.
  3. Enter your VUnetID and ePassword when prompted.

           For non-domain machines, enter your information as vanderbilt\vunetid (all lowercase)

    4. Click Continue.

    5. Cloudpath XpressConnect will automatically configure your computer, and it should switch to vuNet.

    6, At the end of the process, Cloudpath XpressConnect will report that the device is connected.

    7. Configure vuNet as a work network. Click close when prompted.

The device is now connected to vuNet. To verify your network connection, click on the wireless icon. vuNet should display as your wireless network. Browse to a web page or check your email to confirm that you are connected.

Notes and issues

Avast Antivirus False Positive: Avast Antivirus has flagged Cloudpath XpressConnect's exe file as a false positive, meaning that the software may mark the downloaded file as positive for a virus. However, the file is indeed safe to download and install.
